Prologue
If you do one thing on your next episode ...
Get names right. Both personal names and company names.
You wouldn't believe how many people mess this up. And yes, I've been one of those people. Check out the "blooper" section of my Instagram for a good example.
Speaking of names ... Hailey Welch is a name you may not recognize, but you'll recognize her.
Some good advice on what to do when you have "15 Minutes of Fame" below ...

Podcaster Opportunities
Your Podcast ... Featured
Pocket Casts is looking for podcasts to feature in its app.
What to know:
- They're mostly looking to feature new and emerging podcasts or podcasts beginning a new season, but no podcast is out of the question.
- Podcasts must have 1–2 episodes (or one episode and a trailer) in the feed to be considered.
- Please submit your podcast with a Pocket Casts share link. If your podcast is not yet available on Pocket Casts, you can submit it here.
Get more info on how to submit your podcast.
Good luck!

Grow Your Podcast with a Comments Section
For podcast creators who want to grow their audiences, building a stronger relationship with listeners and fans goes a long way.
A "comments section" is like the dance floor at a disco club—everybody can be part of the show.
Yeah, there are some downsides ... The comments on YouTube can get ugly! But there's also a lot of great stuff in there, if you're willing to jump in.
If you are ... Here's more info on how the comments work on Spotify.
Podcast Production
30-Second Newscast Template
Some great advice from audio journalist Emily Siner about how to put together a 30-second newscast ...
Something like this could make for a good segment within your existing episodes or as a shorter, standalone episode when something important/newsworthy happens.
To make it easier to read:
- OPENER - The newsiest tidbit you need to know now
- DETAILS - Basic info: who, what, where, when, how much
- CONTEXT - How did we get here? How does this connect to previous events? Why does it matter?
- SOUND (OPTIONAL) - 8-20 seconds of good tape
- FUTURE - What comes next?
Podcast Humor
YouTube vs. Audio Podcasts
This joke never gets old ... because the topic is so important.
It works two ways, by the way—both consumers and creators get confused about this.
I don't have a dog in the fight when it comes to YouTube vs. Audio. Each has it's pros and cons.
But ... if you're calling yourself a "podcast" and you're only on YouTube, you're going to miss out on some people who are looking for you via "traditional" (and audio-first) podcast platforms, such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
The Business of Podcasting
Life After Hawk Tuah
The "Hawk Tuah Girl" is getting paid!! At least right now ...
This video shows what's happened to her since she went viral. It sounds like she's been pretty smart about the whole thing and has some good people helping her take advantage of the opportunities she has.
Strangely enough, I know her manager from the music business. He's a good guy and she's in good hands.
Her Instagram is worth a look as it will give you an idea of her media appearances and charity work.
I mention her here, because you never know when something will take off. It's good to think about what you'll do should that ever happen.
The good news for podcasters is that you have skills you can put to use, which most "viral stars" don't.
Something Hailey has done well, which is part of the reason I think the "hawk tuah" video took off, is bringing her authentic personality to everything. Are you doing this?
