Some celebrity podcasts are as bad as you'd think they'd be.
But ... is it possible that a "bad" podcast is really a good podcast?
A couple of days ago, I checked in on a newly-released "celebrity" podcast and a YouTube search. A clip came up and I immediately went to the comments section.
A few of the comments that were there ...
"I think I lost a few brain cells."
"Can you guys believe hundreds of years of innovation and development brought us to this moment?"
"Flying cars they said."
"My grandfathers didn't fight in the war for this."
"Thanks TikTok. METEOR 2024!!!!"
But the comment that really caught my attention was this ...
"The comments are better than the podcast."
You could also say, "The community is better than the podcast."
People have asked me what's coming next, after the 30-Day Solo Podcast Challenge (Use code FINAL27 for special pricing) is over.
Perhaps something on how podcasters can build a community around their podcast.

Steal This Idea
83 years of YouTube knowledge in 2 hrs 39 minutes
This is a long video, so I'm going to give you the highlights as they apply to your podcast...
Part 1: Growing Your Podcast
Key Stages of Podcast Growth
- Initial Subscribers: Focus on getting your first 1000 subscribers by refining your niche/focus. Avoid jumping on trends and instead establish a clear content strategy.
- Niche Identification: Use a "triple Venn diagram" approach to find a niche where your passions, skills, and audience demand overlap. This helps you create content that resonates with listeners.
- Content Volume: Aim to post consistently and frequently to establish a foundation. Quality is essential, but consistency helps improve skills over time.
Learning from Performance
- After posting around 50 episodes, analyze which ones perform well (top 5-10%) and which do not. Use this data to refine future content.
Balancing Creativity and Strategy
- Podcasters should balance artistic passion with a strategic mindset. While it's important to enjoy the process, understanding what works can significantly enhance growth.
Part 2: Creating Killer Podcast Episodes
Ideation Process
- Generating Ideas: Use logical ideation (research past successful topics) and inspired ideation (brainstorming sessions) to come up with episode ideas.
- Topic Validation: Validate your topic's potential by checking for prior success on YouTube, Amazon, and social media outlets using tools like Google Trends.
Remarkability in Content
- Stand out in a saturated niche by being significantly better or notably different. Leverage your unique strengths to create remarkable content.
Part 3: Crafting Clickable Titles
The Importance of Titles
- Titles are crucial for driving clicks. They should evoke curiosity, fear, or desire.
- Utilize bold statements and open loops in titles to create intrigue.
Title Length and SEO
- Keep titles concise (around 54 characters) for easier consumption. Consider SEO practices if aiming for search traffic.
Conclusion
By applying these strategies across the different stages of podcast growth—focusing on niche identification, content quality, and effective titles—podcasters can significantly enhance their chances of success. Use both creativity and structured approaches to achieve sustainable growth.

3 Tricks to Make a Cheap Mic Sound Better
I love videos like this one where people take cheap gear and make it sound better.
How to do this with an inexpensive microphone ...
Trick #1: Microphone Setup
- Avoid Holding the Microphone: Holding the mic can introduce unwanted noise. It’s recommended to use a mic stand to securely mount the microphone.
- Prevent Plosives: Plosives, such as harsh "P" sounds, can be reduced by using a pop filter, which redirects air flow to prevent bursts from hitting the mic.
Trick #2: Room Treatment
- Addressing Echo and Reverb: Unwanted echoes and reverberations can occur in rooms with hard surfaces. To minimize this, use affordable sound panels to absorb reflections.
- Incorporate soft materials like carpets and couches to further reduce reverb.
Trick #3: Equalization (EQ)
- Shaping Vocal Tone: EQ allows you to boost or cut specific frequencies in your vocal recordings to improve clarity and presence.
- Suggested EQ settings include cutting frequencies below 100 Hz and boosting frequencies around 2000-4000 Hz for added clarity.
Good luck!
Podcast Humor
My Family Means Everything
There's a saying that you can tell what somebody feels is valuable by looking at that person's calendar and bank account. In other words, where somebody spends time and money is what that person really thinks is important.
Said another way ... "Watch their feet, not their mouths."
Lots of people say they want a big podcast, but very few are willing to do the work it takes to have one.
If you're thinking, "I'm willing to do the work," you're a great match for the 30-Day Solo Podcast Challenge (Use code FINAL27 for special pricing).
