Prologue
"The Podcast Killer"
I keep seeing things about how YouTube is going to kill podcasts.
It's not.
I'm not anti-YouTube by any means—there's a lot of stuff we can learn from the people who post videos there. The successful creators on YouTube are great about getting attention quickly and building communities around their videos.
You can do something similar for your podcast.
Below, I've got a "big picture" summary to help you see where audience-building is going ... Plus some other lessons and tools to help you attract and keep in touch with listeners.

27 Ways to Increase Web (and Podcast) Traffic
Some good ideas here to help you get more traffic to your website/podcast, but one thing I that stands out as far as an overall framework for whatever you create ...
E-E-A-T: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
It’s Google’s way of asking, “Are you the real deal?”
- Experience: Have you lived or practiced what you’re talking about?
- Expertise: Do you have the skills and insights to support what you say?
- Authoritativeness: Are you seen as a credible leader or resource in your field?
- Trustworthiness: Can listeners count on your information to be accurate and reliable?
Make episodes with these elements and you will attract listeners!

Why Joe Rogan is #2 Now ...
Joe Rogan lost his #1 ranking to an anti-Trump podcast.
Right now, all political podcasts are getting a boost—this is known as "The Trump Bump." It also happened during his first term.
But the big lesson here is the power of concentrated focus. Rogan was on top because everybody was talking about him. Right now, everybody is talking about Donald Trump and those who don't support him need somewhere to go.
This is why the MeidasTouch Podcast is #1.
Want to grow a big podcast? Give people who are talking about something a place to go.

The Business of Podcasting
How to Make it on YouTube (or Podcasting) in 2025
This video is about the evolution of social media platforms, the concept of followers, and the implications of algorithm-driven content discovery in the current creator economy. It's almost two hours long, but there's some good info for podcasters, so let me summarize some highlights for you ...
The Death of Followers (or Subscribers)
- Concept Shift: The traditional notion of followers as a measure of success is becoming obsolete. Historically, platforms like Facebook and YouTube allowed users to follow creators and see their content directly.
- TikTok's Disruption: TikTok introduced a feed where content is algorithmically curated, reducing the significance of follower counts. Creators now struggle to reach their audience effectively, with only a small percentage of followers seeing their posts.
Impact on Creators
- Creativity vs. Metrics: Many creators find themselves caught in the tension between creativity and the need to produce content that aligns with algorithmic preferences. This often leads to burnout and dissatisfaction.
- Community Building Challenges: The ability to foster a dedicated community has diminished as platforms prioritize content discovery over follower engagement.
The Current Landscape
- Content Saturation: While the demand for content remains stable, the supply has increased, making it harder for creators to stand out.
- New Discovery Mechanisms: Innovations in short-form and long-form content are shaping how audiences discover new creators. Platforms are increasingly adopting algorithmic feeds that favor novelty and engagement metrics over established follower counts.
Long-Term Creator Strategy
- Diversification of Revenue Streams: Creators are encouraged to diversify their income sources (e.g., membership models, merchandise, live shows) to ensure stability and sustainability in an ever-evolving landscape.
- Cultural Acceptance of Fan Funding: There is an increasing acceptance among fans to pay for exclusive content and access, which can provide creators with additional income streams.
Looking Forward
- Future Trends: The creator economy is projected to grow significantly, with estimates suggesting it could reach $400 billion by 2027. Creators are urged to leverage new tools and platforms that support direct fan engagement and monetization.
- Endurance and Consistency: Successful creators often exhibit endurance and consistent output, adapting to changes while maintaining their unique voice and style.
