Prologue
A Public Service Announcement
So much hype around the Zoom PodTrak P2 ...
It's a good piece of equipment for somebody working with USB mics, especially if you're doing remote work. More on that below ...
But first let me remind you that you can make a great podcast for only $100 and, as long as you have the basic hardware (a decent mic and interface, really), you've got everything you need, since there's some solid audio editing software available for free.
There's a lot to love about podcasting, but two things related to this topic:
- It's inexpensive to produce something great.
- A single person can do the entire process.
This is empowering. Don't take it for granted.
What are you working on? Reach out to me via Bluesky and let me know! I'm finishing out a new book and want to include examples of as many indie podcasters as I can.

2 USB Mic Inputs?!
Want to use two USB mics on a single computer? The Zoom PodTrak P2 can make that happen. Want to bring in a third person via phone or remote connection? It's got that ability too.
This is a big deal for podcasters using USB mics.
You'll also get AI Noise Reduction, tone effect controls, EQ, de-essing, and a master compressor to keep your audio clean.
Zoom is my go-to recorder brand and the perfect blend of affordability and quality. If you need to use two USB mics on a single computer, you'll love this unit.
Want to learn about other Zoom options? I reviewed four of them ...

Automate Your Episode Notes and Social Media
Castmagic is the tool podcasters are using for automated episode notes, social media posts, and more.
Whether you need a transcript, time stamps of episode highlights, or a LinkedIn post, Castmagic can do it.
Here's a nice quote about it from DR from Podcast Help Desk ...
"There is a TON of stuff Castmagic does... I get Quote Cards, Carousels, emails to send to guests, LinkedIn Newsletters, InfoGraphic ideas, social posts, hashtags, (it just all depends on how you prompt it)."
Podcast Humor
A Serious Question ...
Did you see 55% of women say it's a “red flag” if a partner listens to the Joe Rogan?
It's an old story, but a good reminder that a podcast, for many people, is a big part of their identity—you're either on the team or you're not.
What people are saying about this. Maybe something to incorporate into your podcast marketing ...
If you're already doing this, reach out to me via Bluesky and let me know! I'm looking for examples to feature in my upcoming book.
Podcast Monetization
How to Get Paid
Read this for some good sponsorship ideas.
The quick and dirty ...
Start with your minimum “worth it for you to be involved” price. What’s the lowest sponsorship rate you’d even consider for your podcast?
Think about the revenue you want to generate from podcast sponsorships. A great starting point is to divide your target revenue by the available ad slots or sponsorship packages you can realistically offer per episode or season.
Next, consider the return on investment (ROI) you can deliver to a sponsor. Will they generate significant sales from your audience? Drive more traffic to their website? Build a stronger reputation by aligning with your podcast’s brand and community?
If the ROI for the sponsor is higher than your target pricing, use that as a benchmark to set your rates.
If the ROI seems lower than your target pricing, stick with your target anyway—your time and platform are valuable.
If the ROI feels drastically lower, find a balance between your target and the minimum price you’d accept. And if it’s still not worth it, don’t be afraid to pass—your credibility matters.
Good luck!
