Want More Listeners? Do This ...

DId you see what happened in Canada this week?

A couple of months ago, this week's winners were losing big time. Then they engaged a little trick radio jocks (and pro wrestlers) have known about for years ... they called out "The Enemy."

People are complicated. Your listeners aren't idiots and they understand that there's "gray" in everyday life—nothing is black and white.

But your listeners, like you or me, also wish the world was less complicated. And that's what bringing up "The Enemy" does—it simplifies things ... at least on the surface.

Conservatives do it ...

  • Secure Our Borders
  • Cut the Red Tape
  • Back the Blue
  • Free Market First
  • Parents Know Best

Progressives do it ...

  • Medicare for All
  • Raise the Wage
  • Protect Our Planet
  • Love Is Love
  • Books Not Bans

Every one of these has a flipside ... and that flipside is "wrong."

Yes, it's surface level, but calling out "The Enemy" allows you to cut through the noise, get attention, and be able to explain your position in a deeper way that would otherwise get lost.

For example, I don't have a problem with the Blue Yeti—it's a great mic if you know how to use it. But most people don't know how to use it and it sounds like balls ... which is why I often make fun of the Blue Yeti via jokes on my Instagram page (and below). It's then that I can explain how to use a Blue Yeti (or any mic) in a way that makes you sound great.

Don't expect people to come up to there you are—most won't. Instead, come down to their level and bring them up to yours.
