Publishing twice as many episodes as much won’t make you twice as successful.
That math only works if you’re making widgets.
You’re not.
We make the opposite of widgets. Some of our work will be forgettable no matter how many hours we put into it. And some 15-minute thing we threw together will strike lightning and outperform years of work.
So the churn is a bad bet.
Churn works for a while. Then the algorithm turns on you. Or your listeners fall behind and decide they’ll never catch up, so they leave.
What actually holds listeners is the stuff they create. For example, comments under a post. Or emails and letters you read on your show.
Maybe even a meetup where your listeners talk to each other about the thing you started.
That’s when you know you have something.
You set the table, give people a place to sit, and they do the rest.
How to get started:
Ask one specific question at the end of your next episode. Make it something people can answer in a sentence.
Give them a low-friction way to respond: email, voicemail, text message …
Read a few responses in your next episode.
This is how your podcast goes from being something people consume to being a “club” where they belong.
