Prologue
The Power of Podcasting
Podcasters have a lot of influence.
Just a couple of days ago, a 17-year-old student armed with a handgun opened fire in the high school cafeteria in Nashville. There's a lot to the story, but here's why I'm mentioning it here ...
Candace Owens, a Nashville-based podcaster who was recently (and temporarily) suspended from YouTube for hate speech, is credited in the shooter's diary as an inspiration.
Words are powerful. They can help people or hurt them.
If you're doing a podcast that's helpful, I'd love to hear more about it. Reach out to me via Bluesky.

Podcaster Opportunities
Get My Wife Back
This was posted to a freelancer site and I found it interesting for a couple of reasons ...
I would like to make a video to get my wife back. I want to have it full of videos her, us and our families together. I also want to talk to her and apologize during the video. I want to have an apology probably near the end of the video. I also want to talk an narrate us meeting. This is most Likely going to be a bigger project than most videos. it might be 25-30 minutes long
The first is that it shows the perceived power (and value) of video.
The second, which is the main reason I mention this opportunity here, is working on a project like this would make a great story for anybody who takes it on.
"Story" is what differentiates us. It's why you like certain brands and not others. It's why you vote for certain people and not others.

The Art of Writing One-Sentence Podcast Descriptions
How word-of-mouth recommendations for podcasters usually work:
- A listener recalls your podcast when someone discusses a topic your show covers.
- The listener casually mentions your podcast with a question: "Have you listened to Podcast X?"
- The listener dives into a brief description (often a single sentence) of your podcast.
- If the description strikes a chord, the conversation about your podcast continues. If not, it moves on to something else ...
Learn how to write powerful descriptions in one line, with examples from successful companies such as Facebook and Uber.
How do you describe your podcast in a single sentence? Let me know via Bluesky.

How 9 Popular YouTubers Helped Trump Win a Second Term
Some thoughts and analysis of over 2000 videos on how "podcasters" like Joe Rogan and Logan Paul turned young men, a once apolitical demographic, into a massively powerful voting bloc.
Reporters analyzed nearly 1300 hours of footage from their channels, mapping out guest networks, and quantified the frequency of key political messages distributed to tens of millions of viewers each day.
The message ... The United States is in a dire situation, destabilized by soaring inflation, an influx of migrants crossing the border, and the onset of a third world war. Gender politics have spiraled out of control, while schools and the medical establishment have misled the public.

You're Doing It Wrong!
Lots of new podcasters coming online this month ...
If you see somebody doing this, let them know.
I'm an audio-first person so, when I'm doing a remote interview, the camera is off. But sometimes I do a session where there's a camera on before we start to record.
One session, I had a guy on the line who sounded like he was in a cave. He was using this mic and talking into the top of it, which looks correct, but ...
It's a side-address mic.
I mentioned this to him, even having him tap on the top and side to make sure ...
I was right, but he told me, "I've done hundreds of interviews this way" and didn't want to change the position of the mic.
I did a quick interview, with him sounding like balls .... and never released it.
