Prologue
20 Years in Radio
I got on LinkedIn this week and had a few "Congrats on your 20 year anniversary" messages.
That's when I realized that my current run on broadcast radio started in June 2005.
I got into podcasting that same month, by the way.
I'm not one to celebrate. From the time I was 10 until I turned 40, I didn't even celebrate my birthday. But my wife put an end to that—every year we do something special.
I think it's important to acknowledge (and maybe even celebrate) what you've done. But it's also important to keep your foot on the gas.
Last month, I started doing production work for SiriusXM, working alongside some talented radio veterans on talk programming. It's been a great experience so far and I'll be sharing some stories in the near future.
It's easier to rust out than wear out. Keep moving forward!

Using Cameo to Promote Your Podcast
This is a fun way to tell a story using Cameo from Hal of It's Easy When You Know Hal.
Don't know The Gong Show? Watch this clip.
Here are three ways to use Cameo for you podcast:
- Celebrity Podcast Intros - Hire a recognizable celebrity on Cameo to record a custom podcast intro or episode teaser. Use these as cold opens for episodes, social media teasers, or ad spots.
- Special Episode Announcements - Enlist a Cameo celebrity to announce special episodes, season launches, or big guest reveals.
- Segment Transitions or Drops - Commission short audio clips from Cameo personalities to use as recurring segment transitions, bumpers, or sound bites within your episodes.

Podcast Marketing
The 1:1 Method
The reason that most podcasts don't success if that we think we're talking to a crowd.
The crowd is an illusion ... only one person can listen to your podcast at a time.
Podcast Production
Your Invisible Co-Host
I love this image from Terri at Solo Business School because it showcases a part of a podcast that most people don't think about ... the audience.
The audience isn’t just a group of passive listeners—they’re an essential part of shaping every episode of the podcast. Their feedback, questions, and interests drive the direction of the content, helping to ensure that each topic resonates and stays relevant.
By paying attention to listener comments, social media engagement, and real-time reactions, your podcast becomes a genuine conversation rather than a one-sided broadcast. This collaborative relationship makes listeners feel heard and valued, taking them from "casual listeners" into an active community of fans.
In short, a podcast thrives because the audience is at its core, not just at the receiving end.
