Prologue
Protect Your Listeners
I had a listener for a show I produce reach out to me with a guest recommendation ... a "doctor" who believed in preventative treatments and supplements.
Two weeks earlier, a different, but similar "doctor" has reached out to me directly.
The world is full of people who want to borrow your credibility and the relationship you have with listeners to sell pills, potions, and easy answers.
Don't let them.
Podcast Hosting Skills
Your Guest is Hostile ... Now What?
One of the most common questions I get is, “Who was the worst guest you’ve ever interviewed?”
“Worst” is relative. I had one situation where the guest stood up during the middle of the interview, declaring, “This interview is over,” and walked out …
But we ended up with one of our best episodes.
And I’ve had more than a few “really nice people” who didn’t give me enough for a full episode, because they played it safe, talked in circles, and never went past the surface.
Here’s the counterintuitive truth I’ve learned after a lot of interviews:
The “worst” guests aren’t the difficult ones. They’re the forgettable ones.
Conflict and tension can work for you. But that doesn't mean you should be a pincushion for somebody.

Is This You?
Yes, stats and downloads matter. They help you learn what’s working, what’s not, and how far your message is reaching.
But ... they’re not the reason you should keep going (or quit).
If you let numbers decide your worth, you’ll quit too early, long before the podcast has time to find its footing or its people.
You’re not talking to charts or dashboards, you’re talking to real humans.
Keep going!
