Prologue
Why do people share your podcast with others?
The short answer to this question is, "They find the content helpful."
Maybe it's helpful in that it solves a problem. Maybe it's helpful in that it makes the person who shares the episode look cool. But it's definitely helpful.
This issue of Big Podcast Insider is all about how to create podcast episodes listeners will find helpful. Because if you're going to create an episode anyway, it might as well be one that people find beneficial.
Speaking of being helpful... I appreciate you reading this newsletter and hope you find its contents helpful. If so, would you mind telling two podcasting friends? You can send them to bigpodcast.com/newsletter to get their own copy, access the archives, and get my free "Big Podcast Toolkit" with templates and other shortcuts to help grow your podcast.
Thank you!
Podcast Marketing

9 Mistakes to Avoid When Marketing or Hosting Your Podcast
CONFESSION: I hijacked the title of this one. Overlook its use of "webinar" because everything here applies to your podcast and will help you to make better episodes that will attract more listeners.
I'll give you the rundown here, so you can decide if it's worth a click for more info:
- Your
webinarpodcast isn't valuable. - Your
webinarpodcast is too sales-y. - You're marketing your
webinarpodcast to the wrong audience. - You're not making your webinar engaging and interactive.
- You're ignoring a holistic marketing system.
- You're pursuing too many goals with one
webinarpodcast episode. - You're not acknowledging the realities and limitations of the format.
- Your
webinarpodcast is poor-quality, or you don't have adequate equipment. - You don't follow-up with your
attendeeslisteners.
It's worth click – there is a lot more within the article that will help you.

Get More Viewers (and Interaction) on Your Instagram Content
This actually works for any video.
People scroll through Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms at work and others places where they can see you, but not hear you. Because of this you need to transcribe and subtitle your videos to get attention.
Instagram now does this free, with a single click.

Podcasting News

Is Long-Form Audio the Next Big Thing?
Long-form audio has always worked in podcasting. Because of this, news about it being the "next big thing" isn't news at all.
But as a podcaster, it is something to consider as more and more people are just not hearing about this and becoming more open to what you're doing with your podcast.
Clubhouse is making a return now, thanks to the release of an Android version. Both Twitter and Facebook are working on their own variations of the format.
This is the time to "get good" at long-form audio!
This article has more things for you to consider when using it...
Podcast Production

Dear Netflix and YouTube, everything is way too long!!
Oops! Did I just say your show is "never too long, only too boring?"
I did. And it wasn't a mistake. But this guy is onto something and I think you'll relate to it as far as how you make a great podcast episode.
In short, we need better editing.
Just like a "Value Meal" that's 200% bigger than the normal sized meal isn't necessarily 200% better, just because you "go long" on a podcast episode (or anything else) doesn't mean you're making it better.
But I get it. 'Merica!! F$^# YEAH!!
This pandemic seems to be wrapping up though and people have less and less time to spend on your lack of editing. So consider what's being said here.

The Entire Content Creation Process in 17 Steps and a Single Flowchart
Speaking of too long... Does putting together a great piece of content podcast episode really take 17 steps?
No, but look at how this guy puts together an article. I think you'll get a lot of ideas on how you can create new podcast episodes as well as repurpose old ones.
This is the entire process for content creation. Here are 17 steps in the content creation process in one easy flowchart.
